Xian Kim

Xian Kim was born in 1992 in South Korea, graduated from Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts in 2014 and from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2018, both with degrees in printmaking. Kim Xian reassembles familiar things and everyday objects into objects with plastic texture. She focuses only on the essence of common things in daily life and eliminates their unimportant elements. These things reduced to still lifes do not emit any temperature, but are objective and simple, sometimes exuding a frank form. In this way, for Kim, everything on the canvas exists in the most ideal state of nothingness, in which the complexity (i.e. abstraction) of real life disappears. This also allows her to establish her own utopia away from reality. This space feels like a weightless world; it is so free and serene that it can make us forget any of the worries and cares of the world.
